What are the prerequisites to become an interpreter?

Interpreters (and translators) are normally tertiary qualified in another language (other than their mother tongue), often with tertiary qualifications in a specialized field as well and frequently they hold postgraduate qualifications in the interpreting and translating specialization - so they are specialized interpreters and translators.
In Azerbaijan interpreters and translators get qualified via graduate and postgraduate programs at the University of Languages.

As well as being professionally qualified as an Interpreter (and/or Translator) from University of Languages, professionals from other fields with good command of a second or third foreign language practice their skills being an interpreter in the specialization close to their professional interests.
