What is Simultaneous Interpretation?

Simultaneous interpretation is the real-time translation of the spoken word. This allows you to conduct or attend a meeting or conference without having to stop for interpreting, thus avoiding delays.

The two key components for this form of communication are (1) experienced professional interpreters and (2) quality equipment with technical support.

In simultaneous interpreting the interpreters sit in a booth wearing headphones and speak into a microphone. They work in teams of two or three depending on the length of the assignment and complexity of the topic, alternating every 15-20 minutes. This allows other team members to rest, take notes, search words in dictionaries and provide vital input and backup to the interpreter who is speaking.
