The following statistics illustrate the global importance of the industry.

In 2012 respondents to the IBTM European Research Study revealed that they organised on average 23 events over the last 12 months and the average spend per meeting planner/buyer on all events in Europe was $1.13 million. 
Over 44% of those surveyed in the same report stated that the number of events that they organised in the past 12 months had increased and 56% predicted that the number events that they would organise in 2013 would also increase. 
The first UK Economic Impact Study (2012) revealed that meetings attendees to the UK in 2011 spent as much as £40 billion, with over 423,000 employees working specifically on meetings (full time). 

United States
The U.S. meetings industry contributes $907 billion to the U.S. economy, generating 6.3 million jobs according to a study released by PricewaterhouseCoopers and an alliance of 14 meetings industry organisations.

According to the UIA Meetings Report, Asia takes up the top 3 positions of the top five countries for international meetings, with Singapore, Japan and Korea Republic. 
According to the same report, Singapore takes 10% of the world’s share of meetings. 
The average spend per buyer on events in China was $818,038 with overall spend on events in Asia by all buyers in the sample $207,075,000. 

Mean spend per country per buyer throughout Asia was $224,453 and mean budget per event $48,798, up from $45,877 last year.
